Social & Cultural Entrepreneurship in Barcelona - May Term

Participants in our Entrepreneurship program will enjoy one of the world's most lively cities.

Barcelona is continuously ranked as one of the top student destinations in Europe, boasting rich history, a beautiful waterfront location and a lively culture. The city is located only a few hours from the French border, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Located in the autonomous region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain, the Barcelona is the second largest city in the country, with a population of over 1.6 million people that speak both Catalan and Spanish as official languages.

In addition to taking program courses in Barcelona, students will have the opportunity to attend company visits and cultural excursions throughout the city, including places like the Sagrada Familia, Salvador Dalí Museum and Park Güell.

This four-week May Term Program provides students with the opportunity to take BGS 370S - Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship, where they will learn about creating a business to address social problems and use creative means to design market-based approaches to aid a specific cultural group. The course is a practical exploration of social and cultural entrepreneurship in which students learn by doing and are required to create a mission-driven business targeted towards solving a pain-in-the-market that will produce a positive social impact for a culturally marginalized group. The program is complemented by a series of organized excursions and professional visits and is hosted in partnership with IES Abroad. Their 70+ year history in their study abroad field and their partnerships with more than 500 global universities and colleges speak to the quality of IES programs.
