FAQs for Certificate in Global Management

Please read through the following frequently asked questions prior to contacting us:

I've already studied abroad or done an international internship.  Can my previous experience count towards the certificate?

Unfortunately, no.  In order for an International Experience to count, you need to have taken the introductory course, MAN 137, prior to going abroad.  If you did not complete MAN 137 before going abroad, your international experience cannot count towards the certificate.  (There are two exceptions to this policy - participant in 1) the Prague BBA summer study abroad program and 2) the Semester Plus program.  In these cases, the intro course is taught simultaneously with the International Experience.)

I am a freshman.  Can I apply this year?

Yes, you may apply in the spring semester of your first year.  If you want to begin completing coursework for the certificate right away, you may complete the requirement for MAN 137 in the GBLI summer program or the BBA summer study abroad program in Prague.  The Prague program also satisfies the requirements for upper division IB/EUS, MAN 336 and the International Experience.  Even though you can't apply until the spring semester, attending a fall info session will help you plan your certificate path now.

I am a sophomore.  How should I go about planning?

Sophomores are well positioned to fit in the coursework and International Experience.  The most important thing is to be accepted into the program in time to take MAN 137, so it's best to apply in the fall semester.  If you apply and are accepted in spring instead, you can get a start on your coursework by participating in the GBLI summer program or the BBA summer study abroad program in Prague.  Both give you credit for MAN 137.  The Prague program also satisfies the requirements for upper division IB/EUS, MAN 336 and the International Experience.

I am a junior.  Do I have time to complete the certificate?

Yes, if you can complete the intro course MAN 137, followed by an International Experience, followed by the capstone course MAN 237, along with the other requirement before you graduate.  NOTE that MAN 137 and MAN 237 are offered ONLY in the spring semesters; however if you're accepted in the spring, you can get a start on your coursework by participating in the GBLI summer program or the BBA summer study abroad program in Prague.  Both will give you credit for MAN 137.  The Prague program also satisfies the requirements for upper division IB/EUS, MAN 336, and the International Experience, so it's a very good option for students who need to complete the requirements quickly.

I'm a transfer student. Can I complete the certificate?

Yes, if you can complete the intro course MAN137, followed by an International Experience, followed by the capstone course MAN 237, along with the other requirement before you graduate.  You will need to ask your previous school to provide a transcript for the application.  NOTE that MAN 137 and MAN 237 are offered ONLY in the spring semesters; however, you can get a start on your coursework by participating in the GBLI summer program or the BBA summer study abroad program in Prague.  Both will give you credit for MAN 137.  The Prague program also satisfies the requirement for upper division IB/EUS, MAN 336, and the International Experience, so it's a very good option for students to need to complete the requirements quickly.
